First DemoWe want your children  to succeed and to enjoy the milestones of that success. While rank is not stressed in the traditional Japanese sword arts, children who practice with us will be reviewed at periodic intervals to ensure they are learning not only proper techniques, but also correct vocabulary and respectful manners. Children may also be eligible to test with our regional kendo federation on an annual basis. Children who would like to participate in public demonstrations are encouraged to do so.

Kendo Exercises

Sensei Craig with the yougest RCIKK members. We practice kendo under the guidance of the Houston Budokan and Sensei Darrell Craig, who holds a regular children's kendo class in Houston, Texas.

Sensei Craig and the Houston Budokan have strong ties to the Chiba family of Osaka, Japan (Hokushin Kan Itto Ryu). The Chiba dojo has a large program for children. In Japan, kendo is very popular and is taught in schools, as well as traditional dojos like the Chiba Dojo shown here. There are even taikai (tournaments) in Japan just for children.
