Taikai Rules and Regulations

The AUSKF 2010 Iaido Camp Taikai will follow the rules and regulations set forth in the AJKF (All Japan Kendo Federation) Iaido Shiai and Shimpan Regulations handbook.

• All Zen Ken Ren iaidô kata will be pre-selected by the instructors and posted on the day of the taikai. 
• All koryu kata will be chosen by each contestant (Nakanishi Cup contestants only).
• All matches will have a six-minute time limit and will be determined by hantei (judges’ decision).
• All reiho is Zen Ken Ren style.
• Competitors will forfeit their match if they are not ready at the start line.
• One 1st place, one 2nd place, two 3rd place and one Kantosho (Fighting Spirit) awards will be given out for each division.
• All participants are required to wear a proper iaido uniform (gi, hakama) and a nafuda (name tag) on their uniform (English is preferred). Acceptable uniform colors are all black, white, or blue. Wearing mix-and-match colors are not permitted (that is, white keikogi with black hakama). Additionally, taikai participants are not permitted to wear formal, "montsuki" style uniforms (those with a long, dangling sleeve). Tabi will only be allowed in case of foot injury and must be checked by Shinpan Cho.
• All swords will be inspected at the sign-in desk on the morning of the taikai to confirm they are in good working condition, with mekugi (peg) intact. Swords used in the taikai are subject to reexamination by taikai officials at any time during the event.
• All competitors in the Mudansha Division, Murosako Cup, Yamaguchi Cup and Nakanishi Cup must be AUSKF members in good standing.
• Taikai entry will be closed on Wednesday, May 26, 2010. No additions will be allowed after this date. Substitutions will be allowed up to the taikai date and must be arranged with the taikai coordinator.

All competitors will be required to sign in on the day of the taikai, Saturday, June 12, 2010, between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Late sign-ins will not be accepted and will be dropped from their respective division.

All decisions of the referees and judges are final.
 

AUSKF 2010 Iaido Camp Taikai Divisions and Information

Mudansha Division
Eligible ranks: 2 kyu and below.
Each contestant performs five pre-selected kata from Zen Ken Ren iaidô kata.

Murosako Cup
Eligible ranks: 1 kyu and 1 dan.
Each contestant performs five pre-selected kata from Zen Ken Ren iaidô kata.

Yamaguchi Cup
Eligible ranks: 2 dan and 3 dan.
Each contestant performs five pre-selected kata from Zen Ken Ren iaidô kata.

Nakanishi Cup
Eligible ranks: 4 dan and above.
Each contestant performs two kata from their individual koryu / ryu-ha followed by three pre-selected kata from Zen Ken Ren iaidô kata.

Goodwill Division
Open to all iaido practitioners possessing any kyu or dan rank who are not affiliated with the AUSKF.
Each competitor must be a member of an FIK (International Kendo Federation) affiliated organization and must have the ability to perform all Zen Ken Ren iaido kata. Each contestant performs five pre-selected kata from Zen Ken Ren iaidô kata.

Rank and kata requirements for all divisions, except the Goodwill Division, may be modified depending on the number of competitors within each division.

The Goodwill Division will be cancelled if there is an insufficient amount of competitors.

Taikai pairings will be determined between May 30 and June 9, 2010 and will be posted on the taikai date.

Any changes will be communicated to all participants prior to the taikai date.
